Scottish Lime Centre Trust and HES Publish Historic Mortars Paper

Technical Paper 32 has been published by HES as a joint project with the SLCT.

This publication looks at trends that can be discerned from the historic lime mortars database held by the Scottish Lime Centre Trust.

This includes aggregate and binder composition, mix practice and provenance of materials. It also considers changes in practice and regional variations.

It is a valuable insight to the historic world of lime production and usage in Scotland.

Heritage 2020 Comes to a Close, Merges into HEF

The Heritage 2020 programme comes to an end this October, 2020.

The website will be the main way of ensuring a legacy for the work. Over the next month or so the Heritage 2020 website will be re-developed into the new Historic Environment Forum (HEF) website. The intention is that the new website will include a Heritage 2020 section that holds topic-based and working group information.

In addition, Heritage Chat, which was started in November 2017, has been handed over to the new HEF Team so that it will continue to be a mechanism for a digital conversation and means of supporting collaboration in the Historic Environment sector in England. The @HeritageChat handle will therefore remain in place, whilst @Heritage2020 will be repurposed for HEF. And of course the new HEF is in itself a legacy of the Heritage 2020 programme and I look forward to seeing the areas that are chosen as the focus of future task groups.

Feedback Sought on the EU Urban Agenda – Partnership on Culture / Cultural Heritage

The Urban Agenda for the EU was launched in May 2016 with the Pact of Amsterdam. It represents a new multi-level working method promoting cooperation between Member States, cities, the European Commission and other stakeholders in order to stimulate growth, liveability and innovation in the cities of Europe and to identify and successfully tackle social challenges (https://ec.europa.eu/futurium/en/urban-agenda-eu/what-urban-agenda-eu).

Until the 9th of September a consultation is initiated about the Background Paper for culture and culturale Heritage.

“This Background Paper presents the draft actions developed by the Partnership on Culture / Cultural Heritage and submitted to Public Feedback.
https://ec.europa.eu/futurium/en/culturecultural-heritage/culture-cultural-heritage-background-paper
Everyone is invited to provide comments on one or several of the draft actions via an online survey tool, which is accessible via the Futurium online platform.

The results of the online Public Feedback will be taken into consideration by the members of the Partnerships for the preparation of the final version of the Action Plan, which will be presented to the DG meeting on urban matters held once every EU presidency.

Contributions are sought from individuals and national authorities, intergovernmental and nongovernmental organisations, social partners and civil society, academic institutions, financial institutions, international organisations, EU institutions and agencies, based in EU Member States or third countries.”

On several draft actions Cultural Heritage and Climate Change are topics.
