UNESCO Chair on Digital Heritage Calls for Two New Positions

CIfA Resources – Archaeology Labour Market Intelligence: Profiling the Profession and Heritage Market Surveys

CIfA works with a range of partners, including Historic England and FAME to ensure that accurate labour market intelligence is available for the sector. Initiatives include Profiling the Profession, designed to gather information about everybody working in archaeology and the historic environment and repeated at 5 yearly intervals and the Archaeological Market Surveys, which provide a snapshot of the market for archaeological services on an annual basis. Most recently this work has been undertaken by Landward Research Ltd. The latest reports can be accessed here.

Study Abroad in San Gemini, Italy at the Preservation Studies Program – Application Deadline Extended to 15 April

We have spaces open in most of our programs and are still accepting applications for our summer 2019 field school, the San Gemini Preservation Studies Program. The deadline for applications is now April 15, 2019.

Now in its 21st year, with alumni from over 170 colleges and universities worldwide, SGPS is dedicated to the preservation of cultural heritage. We offer students the opportunity to study and travel in Italy where they acquire hands-on experience in restoration and conservation.

In the past year, there have been major new developments for our SGPS program. An academic relationship has been established with West Virginia University that offers our students the opportunity to apply for and receive credits through the WVU Art History Department. The deadline for applying for credit through West Virginia University is April 1. Also, in 2018, a significant 3-year cooperation agreement has been signed with the Office of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage for the Abruzzo Region to study and conserve archaeological objects held in their museums, as well as a collaboration with the Historic Archives of the Dioceses of Terni for SGPS participants to study and conserve archival documents.

Heritage Alliance is recruiting for a new Head of Policy and Communications

Are you passionate about the Heritage Sector? Do you want to work at the heart of heritage policy and help to champion its future? The Heritage Alliance is the heritage sector’s umbrella organisation and advocacy body and we are seeking an outstanding person to take up the key role of Head of Policy and Communications. The successful candidate will join the Alliance’s small, energetic team based in our offices just behind the Tate Modern.

This is an exciting and wide-ranging role requiring a dynamic, proactive and reliable individual with a strategic outlook and a track record of influencing and impact. Reporting to the Chief Executive the role incorporates a wide range of communications, public affairs and policy tasks. Applicants should be persuasive communicators, able to demonstrate strong written, analytical and project management skills. Technical website competence and social media management experience are essential.

Whilst a demonstrable interest in heritage policy is important, direct experience across heritage policy areas is not essential; the successful candidate will possess the skills needed to quickly acquire technical knowledge. Experience working with Government and politicians, the media, managing events and meetings is also desirable.

Joint European Parliament and European Commission Event ‘EU Research and Innovation for Cities of the Future’ 21 March 2019

An event jointly organized by the URBAN Intergroup of the European Parliament with the European Commission, Directorate General for Research and Innovation, on cities. Cities have moved to the centre of the European and Global Sustainability and Climate Agenda. This joint event will show how EU-funded Research and Innovation actions are driving Sustainable Urban Development to address major urban challenges. 

The event aims to:

·         Inform Members of the European Parliament, City Leaders, policy makers, academia, private sector, industry and innovation firms on the substantial evidence knowledge base from EU funded  Research and Innovation projects/initiatives/actions;

·         Discuss EU R&I emerging findings, challenges and opportunities building on the main highlights of the draft High-Level Expert Group[1]report on “Innovating Cities;

·         Support knowledge transfer towards sustainable urban transition, tapping on the existing EU funding instruments.

Cyprus University of Technology Call for Recruitment: EU Research Area Chair Holder on Digital Heritage / Cultural Informatics

Applications are invited from candidates who possess the necessary qualifications in order to fill one (1) Full-time Researcher Position: Special Scientist for Research / Senior Researcher A / ERA Chair holder on Digital Cultural Heritage) at the newly established UNESCO and European Research Area Chairs on Digital Cultural Heritage within the Digital Heritage Research Laboratory (DHRLab – www.digitalheritagelab.eu ) of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) in the research field of Digital Heritage and Cultural Informatics.The selected scientist will work for fifty-four (54) months within the EU H2020 ERA Chair ‘Mnemosyne Project’, a unique EU-funded programme bringing together for the first time a worldwide network, aiming at implementing a multidisciplinary and inter-sectorial educational, research and training programme between academic research, creative industries and key Cultural Heritage stakeholders.
